Did you know the iPhone specifically pulls all your panorama shots from you Camera Roll into a separate album? I just discovered it! I loved these moments and the perspective that panorama gives the camera. Here are my favorites from the last year... Enjoy!

Seven Sites 9/18

Last post, I mentioned I spent a lot of time on the internet. It's not the best thing, but I do stumble upon some pretty interesting/shocking/strange/helpful stuff. I'll save you the time of scouring HuffPost and Slate and (insert media site here). You're welcome or I'm sorry, depending on how you feel.

1. My best friend Mallory is in London being awesome (and klutzy) in London. Check out her blog and follow her memorable year from the beginning. It's called "A Patriot Among Loyalists", which is amazing because Mallory is probably the most patriotic 22-year-old I know.

2. Ok. Ew. Every girl is guilty at least sometimes of not washing their makeup off their face before bed, but this video from The Doctors about the premature havoc that makeup can wreck on your sleeping face will change your perspective. Ew. Ew.

3. I love my Birchbox, but I think the beauty sample delivery market can be shared. Enter ipsy. Same price, slightly different area of product focus but the end result looks great. And who doesn't love getting more packages?

4. I found this cookie butter popcorn recipe on Pinterest, and I can't wait to make it. Trader Joe's has the Speculoos Cookie Butter that tastes exactly like a Biscoff cookie. I'm obsessed. I think it could be substituted for peanut butter in almost any recipe. This lady made it a Easter themed recipe, but I think the fall-esque recipe could be better.

5. Have you heard of ScoutMob? Go ahead and download the app to find some of the best deals in Atlanta and a dozen other cities. It's like the cool Groupon. No offense. One of their current "Curated Local Experiences" offers a ride on the new SkyView Ferris Wheel in Centennial Park and a cocktail at the Glenn Hotel for two. Sounded like a great date night to me!

6. I love Whole Foods, so I chuckled through this entire HuffPost post by comedienne Kelly MacLean.

7. Millennials leaving the church?  Where are they going? Guest contributor, Rachel Held Evans, writes for the CNN Belief Blog about the authenticity that my generation longs for in the church. Hint, we want more than a rock band and casual dress code.

I may keep this Seven Sites thing going. Ciao!

August Rush... to the Blog

Thanks to all the lovely people out there reading my blog! lions tigers & clare hit over 1,100 views for the month of August. I'm enjoying writing and sharing my world with the world. It just makes me wonder... Who are the faces behind those 1,100 clicks?

Even though I still consider myself a novice in this bidness, I've found some strategies that have helped me. I'm hesitate to share my secrets, but I'm not greedy. What goes around, comes around.

1. Sharing to social media: Share to Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and add a little extra teaser to the post. Simply reiterating something in the post isn't as interesting.

2. Pinterest for pictures: I've been fortunate enough to take a lot of great trips where I have taken A LOT of great photos. I've created pins of these photos and they've gotten pretty popular. It's cool to think of a whole different community of people getting to see beautiful sights from my point of view.

3. Link, Link, Link: If I write about a restaurant or a place with a web presence, I try to link back to their page. It helps my readers get a better idea of what I'm talking about and it helps my blog get on their radar as a stream of traffic.

4. Talk about it: I get the best ideas and inspirations when I talk out loud to friends, family and sorta strangers. Sometimes, I feel like I'm writing to a vacuum disguised as a white screen. But, by talking, the blog becomes more of an extension of myself.

Thanks yall! Happy football!!! Go Dawgs.

Pressfolio: A MUST for Online Writers

You know you're growing up when discovering new career websites can be the highlight of your day. A few weeks ago, I received an invite for Pressfolios from a blogger friend but I hadn't tried it out. Yesterday, I read an article from USA Today College about the site so I figured I'd give it a shot. Now I love it. Pressfolios is that "thing" you needed that you didn't realize you needed as a journalist, writer or communications worker.

It's a user-friendly professional website without the code and confusion. You can customize the aesthetics of the page, offer your contact information, a biography and professional statement. After entering the URL's of the press releases and blog posts that I've written over the last few years, I went through and edited the photos and dates of publication. You can sort them by type or date or topic. It's really impressive.

I've been stressed out about finding a job (duh) because I feel like a resume and cover letter fail to fully convey the person writing the words (me). But Pressfolios is taking a step in the right direction. Now, I have a saved archive of all my online writing that I can show to employers without the scrambling and fear of the dreaded "This page cannot be displayed" screen when asked for a strong writing sample. You can create your own URL so the page is easy to find and high on SEO results, too.

So, for all the the writers out there, I highly recommend setting aside an hour or so and make a Pressfolio account. Get it all out there, sit back, and be proud of all you have to show for yourself.

Awaiting Arrested Development

I didn't start watching Arrested Development until Netflix announced they were preparing the show for a fourth season, after seven years off the air. Netflix has premiered their original series, House of Cards and Hemlock Grove but this is the first time they've revived an existing show. They don't release an episode a day or week but all episodes in the series at once. So it has the potential to be more like an 8-12 hour movie than a television show. Either way, I find the process fascinating.

Netflix started as tech company and paved its way to the forefront by offering new and old entertainment to their customers. The sheer magnitude of content on Netflix is overwhelming. Now, it's taking the next logical step: cutting out the networks and creating the content themselves. The hype around Arrested Development is really exciting and I've been preparing myself by perusing AD GIF's, Perez's lists, and creative marketing campaigns on BuzzFeed. I'm sure when it premieres on May 26th, fans and first time viewers will flock to their phones, tablets, computers, and Internet TV's to see if Netflix got it right. I bet some will even have a full marathon with all 15 episodes in one sitting. I have no issues if that's your choice, but shouldn't you spread the fun? Just a little?

Here's the trailer for Season Four:

...and if you haven't watched Seasons 1-3, you're in luck; they're already on Netflix.

ALSO... I graduated college since I last blogged. I'll write about that some other time. It's hard to fit four years in one post.

LT&C's new look

After a lot of trial and error, I finally created a new header for the blog that I'm really excited about! LT&C was beginning to look a little cluttered and it was time for a good overhaul.

Shout out to the BFF for taking the  new header photo on the western cliffs of Malta last spring break. It felt like a dream, though I swear it's not photoshopped.

Warm Your Heart on a Cold Day

This sweet video was just what I needed today for inspiration and warm-fuzzies. Animation has come so far, borrowing techniques from cinema and doing the impossible on screen. I'm loving my classes this semester and I love watching a solid piece of art like Paperman. Enjoy and stay warm!

JERRY!

Jerry Seinfeld. In Athens. Thursday.

I'm so excited!

In anticipation, I've re-watched his web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee". The 10-12 minute episodes are exactly as the title suggests: Jerry picks up a fellow comedian (Larry David, Alec Baldwin) in one of his numerous cars and they go get coffee somewhere in LA. You'll feel like a fly on the wall with some of the most brilliant minds in comedy.

Enjoy!

16 February 2012

just spent an hour on pinterest...

...but I'm too lazy to pin. It's a beautiful day in Rome! We had class on the terrace today, facing all of Rome. We could even see the snow-capped mountains far in the distance. Off to enjoy the sunshine.

CIAO!

Hangout Festival & New Media

I made this Flash Project for my New Media Class and I'm really happy with the way it turned out!! I can't figure out how to put a flash project on Blogspot, so this will have to do for now! The lineup for the 2012 Festival comes out in 3 hours!!!

I'll finish my classes in Rome 4 days before the festival starts, so who knows if I'll come home, but I'm excited to see who will be performing regardless.

Happy Friday Everyone!!

stumbleupon & you'll never go back

There's this really cool thing called the Internet... It's KINDA become a big deal and there's a lot of stuff out there. Sometimes, it's hard to know what stuff out there is worth looking at and sometimes, the coolest things on a topic don't come up on the first page of google search results.

with stumbleupon, you customize your interests, add the toolbar, then simply stumble, upon something most likely really cool. Here are some random things I've stumbled upon.

Look at this & this & that. Oh, and this. All potentially useless, yet incredibly cool.
